There are several ways in which the player can add spin or slice to their ball, influencing the path of their shot. This is desirable when the player wishes to increase or decrease the distance of their shot or when the player wishes to hit their ball around obstacles. One such way is from the gauge itself.
To curve the ball, a player must use their finger to swivel the club to either the left or the right. The player will notice that the indicator on the top gauge will move in the corresponding direction. This indicates the direction that the ball will curve in. Using this feature is ideal for hitting the ball around obstacles that otherwise would get in the player’s way. In addition, the curve can be magnified if the direction of the wind matches the direction of the player’s curve.
To add spin to the ball, the player must click on the ball selection icon from the game screen, after which the image on the left will appear. One must slide their finger either up, down, left, or right to influence the direction they would like their ball to go in once it touches the ground. Note that the maximum amount of spin a player can add to the ball is determined by both the type of club and ball that player is using. The following is how each type of spin influences one’s shot.
Topspin : Increases the distance the ball travels and occasionally increases bounce height.
Backspin : Decreases the distance the ball travels and occasionally reduces bounce height.
Left sidespin : Sends the ball to the left once it hits the ground.
Right sidespin : Sends the ball to the right once it hits the ground.
Topspin is ideal for hitting the ball past rough patches on the course as the ball can more easily bounce over them or bounce off of them.
Backspin is ideal when the player is faced with a strong forward wind and at risk of overshooting the green.
